For every finding, record the affected workflow, the observed behaviour, the source of the observation and the next check. Distinguish a failed test from a claim made in an interview and from a component you could not access. For the booking product, “email is unreliable” is too vague. Record which notification failed, whether the booking remained stored and whether anyone could see or retry the failed delivery. That finding connects a technical issue to customer impact without pretending to know its frequency from a single example.

Begin the recovery note with its purpose and target. Is the team restoring an isolated rehearsal environment, recovering a failed host or replacing damaged production data? Those actions have different consequences. Record where the chosen backup came from, when it was created, its integrity result and which application version is compatible. Keep access instructions separate from the secret values themselves so the procedure can be shared with authorized operators without spreading credentials.

An incremental replacement needs a clear point where old and new responsibilities meet. Decide which component calculates a price, which stores the accepted quotation and which can revise it. Run the new calculation against safe historical examples and investigate disagreements before making it authoritative. If a temporary comparison mode is used, prevent it from issuing invoices or other real effects twice. Name the operator who reviews differences and the condition for moving each contract type. A boundary is useful when it reduces uncertainty; a new interface that conceals several competing sources does not achieve that.

The moment users start writing to the new system, reversal needs more than a database copy. Identify the records created or changed since the cutover, their external effects and how they will be preserved if service returns to the old application. Where reverse transfer is not safe, define a controlled forward-recovery route and make that limit explicit before launch. Decide who can make the stop-or-continue call and which evidence they need. After a successful transition, keep the agreed recovery material protected and retire temporary access and duplicate jobs according to the runbook.
